Gabrielle Gould is a Minnesota born, Florida based jewelry designer who works with a combination of natural elements. She relishes the natural wonder and wildlife surrounding her home and studio on the coast of Northeast Florida. Her jewelry is a figurative expression depicting the varied terrestrial, upland and wetlands habitats. A self described modern hunter gatherer, Gould regularly combs the Atlantic shoreline, tramps paths along coastal wetlands, and hikes into the inland hammock of northern Florida. Her choice of materials is often an easily overlooked wonder- a miniature mollusk shell, found fossilized shark tooth, fallen feathers. In Ornament Magazine, Pat Worrell writes about Gould’s work, “The streamlined design is intentional for Gould but for the viewer, each small discovery adds to the charm of the piece. And more surprises await those who investigate Gould’s pieces closely. Secret compartments open to reveal a trio of pearl eggs, a coral egg, or perhaps a worm or beetle.”
Artist bio:
Gabrielle attended Flagler College, St Augustine, FL; BA degree Fine Art and Commercial Art. She is the recipient of many honors including the Southern Arts Federation/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, 1993 and the American Craft Council Award of Excellence, 2006. Her work has been featured at prominent museums and galleries across the country including the Museum of Art and Design, permanent collection, NYC; Society for Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh, PA; Florida Craftsmen, permanent collection, St Petersburg, FL; Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston, MA; Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art, solo exhibit, Jacksonville, FL.
She has participated in many of the Nation’s finest juried craft shows including American Craft Council Shows, Philadelphia Museum Craft Show, Smithsonian Craft Show, S.O.F.A. Chicago, Craft Forms, Wayne Art Center, PA, Loot! MAD Museum, and Bijoux, Norton Museum West Palm Beach.
